Digital Library URLs


On occasion we get asked about Veridian’s URLs, and whether they can be made “clean”, Many have experience changing the permalinks in Wordpress or other CMSs, and want to do the same with their digital library. These questions are often inspired by the role of the URL in Search Engine Optimization, though others are more genuinely more concerned with user experience and usability. Indeed short, descriptive URLs are more memorable and attractive than programming-logic based URLs; and all worthwhile SEO practitioners probably agree that descriptive URLs are an important element in SEO practice.

Veridian’s URL structure, like other digital library systems, is anything but short… or attractive. But it is the way it is for a reason. That reason becomes apparent as you explore the information contained within the URL.
